Things to do Take time to view the awesome modern architecture of buildings such as the Burj al Arab on Jumeriah Beach and Burj Khalifa Dubai. Traditional attractions include Jumeriah Mosque, one of the most photographed sights in Dubai. Alternatively, walk the streets of the restored Bastakia area to find a total contrast to the 5-star resorts. Note that Dubai is not really suitable for exploring on foot so it's best to hire a taxi or join an organised tour.
Shopping Dubai is a shopper's paradise! Aside from the Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping centre, there are numerous traditional markets and souks which are popular with bargain hunters and tourists. The most famous is the Gold Souk, where the streets are lined with dazzling shops bursting with jewellery. The traditional spice souk is a treat for the senses full of cinnamon and incense.
Dining In Dubai you can find everything from delicious kebabs to 7-course tasting menus prepared by world famous Michelin-starred chefs. Due to the strict liquor laws you won't find nightclubs or bars dotted along the streets, but they can instead be found inside the hotels. |
