Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean. It sits geographically below the Bahamas, and is blessed with a dry, sunny, tropical climate throughout the year. Summer highs are rarely over 33 Degrees while winter lows are usually around 20 Degrees. Turks and Caicos is serviced by most American carriers, including Delta and US airways. International carriers like British Airways and Air Canada also fly to Providenciales daily, with domestic flights and ferry transfers available between the islands. The islands have a large variety of accommodations to suit the needs of every traveller. The famous and ever impressive Beaches Resort & Spa by Sandals boasts a giant waterpark, 12 miles of powder soft sand and turquoise waters, as well as planned activities for all ages. For those who prefer a quaint self-catering setup, 'One on Marlin' is a relatively new resort. It provides nicely set up one bedroom apartments, and combines it with a friendly and personal service, just a 5 minute drive from the beach.

Turks and Caicos is a premier diving location, with many dive shops who know the area well. February brings the seasonal migration of Humpback Whales which is a major draw for people who hope to swim with these gentle giants. Diving is good year-round and the sites are suitable for divers of all skill levels, with many reef sharks, turtles, barracuda and the usual variety of tropical fish to be seen. Another popular pastime is kiteboarding, especially on the southern shores of Providenciales. The reliable wind and waves along this stretch of coast make Provo a convenient place to learn.

In July, the annual Music and Cultural Festival is an 8 day event which always attracts big name celebrities from the music world. The last Saturday in November sees the annual Conch Festival held in the Blue Hills, where restaurants around Provo all compete fiercely for the top awards for their conch creations. Conch is a type of sea snail and is a traditional food on the island. Recipes are created using conch, including curry, chowder and salad. To learn more about the Conch, you can go on a tour arranged by Conch Wonch tours. The 3.5hr tour operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and takes you to the world famous Conch Farm. The tour also includes a native dance show, ending in lunch at Da Conch Shack. Other activities on the island include horse rides along the coast, whale and dolphin watching tours by boat, and Vespa or car rentals which allows for freedom and exploration of the islands. For a delicious lunch or dinner with a spectacular view, head to Kalooki's in the Blue Hills. Consistently great reviews and a favourite of the locals, Kalooki's provides great service with fantastic food. Overall, Turks and Caicos is a wonderfully relaxing destination for anyone who loves to be near the ocean. Its laidback lifestyle, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and swaying palm trees have a way to mellow to mind and rejuvenate the soul. It really is postcard perfect.
