The B & B Suliccenti make unique and unforgettable your relaxing Sicilian holiday. Marzamemi is also a fishermen village which is about 3 km from the town of Pachino in the province of Syracuse. The name comes from the Arabic Al-Hamam Marsà which means Bay of Doves, since the area is a place of forced passage of small birds during migration.
The village was born around the landing, which later became fishing port, and developed thanks to the latter activity, still widely practiced, even acquiring a tuna, among the most important in Sicily. The trap of Marzamemi dates from the time of the domination of the Arabs in Sicily. In 1630 it was sold by the owner to the Prince of Villadorata.
The Villadorata potenziarono the buildings of the trap leading from Avola and Syracuse of skilled carpenters, who were then living in Marzamemi. In 1752 they built the palace and the church of the trap, and the houses of the sailors. In 1912 a factory was built in Marzamemi of salted tuna processing and later the tuna in oil. Fishing for tuna was plentiful until the postwar period.
