Bend is a city in the US state of Oregon. It lies along the Deschutes River and was formerly a successful logging town. Today it is best known as an outdoor recreational holiday destination, with visitors flocking to enjoy activities such as rock climbing, white water rafting and hiking in an area surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Bend is best known for its open spaces, greenery and parks. Deschutes National Forest is popular with visitors who enjoy using the various trails for walking and mountain biking, as well as fishing, boating and spotting the varied wildlife.

Many people choose to camp while in Bend and there are many opportunities and locations to do so. If you prefer your comforts there are also log cabins, hotels and B&B's. Bend is a relatively small and modest place but has everything you need from a holiday destination. The Old Mill District is the most popular place to visit for shopping, galleries and restaurants. There is also a large choice of entertainment in Bend. The Les Schwab Amphitheater, opened in 2001 and is an outdoor riverfront concert venue with an 8,000 capacity. It has welcomed acts such as Bob Dylan and Coldplay, as well as events such as Bend Brewfest.

The open air adds a casual feel to the venue, in keeping with the general setting and atmosphere in Bend. For those who enjoy visiting a museum on their travels, the Des Chutes Historical Museum is located in Reid school building. It is operated by the local Historical Society and focuses on the area through history, including the Native American history, the former logging industry and forestry. It houses many historical artifacts and educates visitors about the life and times of Bend.

Bend offers a beautiful setting for relaxation, not only with the scenery but with ample opportunities for pampering at the numerous spas and leisure facilities. There is also an opportunity to eat and drink plenty! The Bend Ale Trail, is the largest in the west and Bend has more breweries per capita than anywhere else in Oregon, as well as wineries and distilleries.

Bend benefits from sunny days and cool evenings, and is very much experienced best outdoors. Roberts Field in Redmond is the closest commercial airport. It is also accessible by car or rail. Until 2006, there was no bus service in Bend although this is now up and running. However the best way to enjoy what Bend has to offer is by foot or by bicycle and at leisure in the open air. It is a great choice for a family holiday and a leisurely escape from busy city life. Families can spend the day walking and exploring the vast, green areas and wind down of an evening by a campfire, with the fish they caught that day for their supper
