Things to do
The River Danube splits the city into two parts, Buda and Pest, with the landmarks and bridges helpful in finding your way around. Most of the city's famous sights can be found on Castle Hill on the Buda side, in downtown Pest and along the riverside walkways. Head to Heroes Square to see the Fine Art Museum and don't miss the Royal Castle in Buda.

Shopping
The main shopping areas are in the city centre and the lanes surrounding Pest's Vaci Utca. Designer outlets can be found on Andrassy Avenue in Pest, while the Castle District is home to speciality craft shops. You should pay a visit to the Great Market Hall (Nagy Vasarcsarnok), which has a lively atmosphere and is perfect for negotiating a bargain.

Dining
The food and wine are excellent, cheap and in recent years, Budapest has become the region's party town. Bar boats line the Danube at night, providing an unforgettable place to enjoy views of the city. Many traditional restaurants can be found serving contemporary Hungarian cuisine, whilst playing Gypsy music. Make sure you try some of the regional specialities, such as Goulash and the iconic Dobos cake.
