More on Burlington .

Burlington Vermont is the largest city in Vermont and less than 45 miles away from the Canadian border. It has a population of approximately 45,000 people and has more than one claim to fame: Ben & Jerry's was founded in 1978 in a renovated gas station, the Phish band had its start here, and it is also the site for the Ethan Allen mansion. Burlington Attractions Many visitors to the area flock to the Lake Champlain Waterfront. It is breathtaking at dusk with the Adirondack Mountains in the background.

There is a 7.6-mile bike path along the waterfront, and one can also hike up to Battery Park along the way for a view of the city down below. North Beach is the nicest beach in Burlington and on the waterfront bike path. It has a 45-acre campground open from May to mid-October. It's beautiful in the autumn when the leaves are changing. Locals and visitors alike both enjoy Burlington for its baseball. Centennial Field is home to the Lake Monsters, a minor league baseball team that's affiliated with the Oakland As. One must try the local coffee places. They are not the average Starbucks, but instead serve up local favorites with tried and true roasts. Top choices include Speeder and Earls, Muddy Waters, and Uncommon Ground.

Burlington is also home to the tallest filing cabinet; close to downtown, it's worth the stop to see the rust and graffiti tower. On the campus of Champlain College sits an unusual kind of statue where a man is kneeling looking through periscope towards Lake Champlain. The Robert Hull Fleming Museum is the local natural history museum that was built in 1931. It has a huge collection of art dating back to ancient times and including European, African, Asian and American paintings and prints. It also features local artists. Burlington City Arts Center is in the historic Ethan Allen Firehouse and showcases diverse contemporary art exhibits. One can walk back into history and learn about the 1780s when famous Ethan Allen began his career at the Ethan Allen Homestead. It overlooks the Winooski River and has stunning views and walking trails. Boat tours are also available at the Waterfront Park and one can learn more about the famous statesmen and search for the infamous Loch Ness monster. Shopping and Restaurants The main place to go for shops, restaurants and coffee shops in is down Church Street. Church Street Marketplace is downtown Burlington and in an award-winning open-air mall. In the summer it's a hub of activity. It has historical architecture and year-round festivals, music and street entertainers, and over 100 places to shop, eat, and many quiet places to just be in peace. Some of the best places include:

There is a farmers market at City Hall Park on Saturdays where one can get fresh produce vegetables fruits. Leunig's Bistro is where one can lounge on Church Street. There are local street musicians and it has really good food. Vermont Pub and Brewery features their own brews. Nectar's Nightlife is where Phish began and is a great place to try fries with gravy. Burlington is a popular place to visit, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing. It attracts individuals and families who want to relax, watch the leaves change, and enjoy a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere. Add in some history, waterfront hikes, and great coffee, this beautiful town is a perfect destination.
