Lillehammer is a Norwegian town located to the north of Oslo, in the Gudbrandsdalen valley. It is one of Norway's best known winter sports centres, and it was here that the Winter Olympics was held in 1994. The town's main street has many traditional 19th century wooden houses, and in the background rises the spectacular mountain landscape. This is the wonderful setting, both in summer and winter, for sports like trekking, fishing, cycling, horse riding, skiing, golf and others. The woody hillsides here are home to reindeer, elk, hares and foxes, and fish are abundant in the mountain rivers and lakes. In winter, there are 200 kilometres of ski runs here, with Hafjell being the largest ski resort in the area. Visit the Maihaugen Open Air Museum, the Olympic Museum, the Art Museum, Lillehammer Church, the sleigh-racing track, the Hunderfossen Family Park and many other parks for children with activities, water parks and other things for young and old. Lillehammer is a place full of attractions for all the family.
