Moab is a city in the east of the state of Utah. Due to its location, it attracts many visitors who are heading for the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. As such, it is often used as a place to stay for those who are traveling the wider area. The most popular accommodation types are cabins and campsites, in fitting with the outdoor feel of the place. Arches National Park is just four miles North of Moab and contains over 2,000 natural sandstone arches. It is popular with geologists, but also tourists more generally.

Activities in the area include backpacking, camping and hiking, but permits are required for some activities and climbing is strictly regulated. At night, astronomy is popular at the Arches due to the darkness of the sky. Canyonlands National Park is close to the Colorado River and the Green River and is a colorful Park of hills and canyons. There are four districts to the park and these are called the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the rivers. All of them have their own characteristics. It is visited by over 440,000 people every year, who enjoy the landscape for off-road driving as well as hiking.

Thrill seekers enjoy this Park for the climbing, base jumping and white water rafting. The rivers are ideal for activities such as rafting and kayaking. West Water Canyon on the Colorado River is the most popular section, upstream from Moab and Cataract Canyon downstream. The Green River is more popular for canoes and boating. Many people use Moab as a base to explore the wider area. There is an annual Moab Jeep Safari event which welcomes many visitors to the area. It is also used by mountain bikers who use long trails such as the Slickrock Trail.

The Skinny Tyre Festival attracts road bikers and the Moab Munifest is one of the biggest mountain unicycling events in the world. Moab is the perfect outdoor tourist area, with hot summer and cool winters. Moab has been used as a setting for a number of films, including back in 1939 for Stagecoach, in 1988 for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and more recently Hulk, Star Trek, 127 Hours and Transformers: Age of Extinction. Moab has so much to offer visitors. It tends to appeal more to young people who enjoy sport and outdoor activities, but is also suitable for older, active people and families. The charm of Moab is that you can spend your days doing as little or as much as you like. For a relaxing holiday, it is the ideal place to lie under the stars with a barbeque after a day of leisurely hiking or alternatively, it can be fully utilized by adventure junkies who like their sports extreme.
