Paphos is a town on the south-east coast of Cyprus. The town's name originates from its link to Aphrodite, as the ancient Greeks considered it to be the birth place of the Goddess of Love. Paphos was the name of the son she had with Pygmalion. The town's great historical, architectural and mythological value led to it being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. The unspoiled beaches of Paphos are a veritable paradise. If what you are looking for is peace and quiet, you are sure to find it here. The town still has some monuments and ruins that date back to the Hellenistic era, such as the Tomb of Kings and the Paphos Mosaics, which were created in the second century. We recommend visiting the Archeological Museum, the Byzantine Museum, the Church of Agia Solomoni with its sacred tree, the 12th century Castle of Saranta kolones, Paphos Castle, the Basilica of Panagia Limeniotissa, and the Basilica of Chrysopolitissa, besides many other marvellous places of interest. Discover this legendary town, visit Paphos! |
