Stavanger is a coastal city in the southwest of Norway in the county of Rogaland. It is the country's fourth largest city and the centre of Norway's third largest urban area. Stavanger is characterised by some majestic mountains, peaceful fjords and lovely beaches. It also has a lively nightlife, some excellent traditional cuisine and some highlights of Norwegian culture. One of the main attractions of the area is the Manafossen waterfall, which is the county's largest and one of the most important in Norway. The 92-metre high waterfall is outstandingly beautiful. Another good place to visit is Man Farm. Around the main building you can see the remains of a medieval farm that was in use until 1915. If you enjoy cultural activities, then don't miss Stavanger Cathedral, which was built in 1125 in the Anglo-Norman style. In 1272 it was damaged by a fire, and this allowed the opportunity to build a choir in the new Gothic style. Stavanger also has a wide range of museums, parks, restaurants, hotels and shops. |
