Stresa is a commune in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. It is between Monte Mottarone and Lake Maggiore. Stresa is famous for its luxury hotels and is very close to the Borromean Islands. The heart of Stresa is Piazza Marconi, where you can visit the Church of Sant'Ambrogio. You should also make a point of seeing the Ducal Villa, built in refined Neo-classical style, the Congress and Villa Pallavicino, which has many different varieties of trees, glasshouses, fish ponds, rose gardens and even a small zoo. You can row out to the three small islands in the middle of Lake Magiore. Isla Bella is the most well-known of these. It is home to the famous Palazzo Borromeo, with its gardens, grottos, staircases, fountains. The palace has opened its doors to both Napoleon and Mussolini. Isla Madre is the biggest island and a treat for nature lovers, with a varied plant life that includes beautiful azaleas and camellias. Isla dei Pecatori, the smallest of the group, has old alleys with traditional trattorie that are prefect for sampling some wonderful Italian cooking. Music festivals are often held in Stresa and usually take place in the town's most fascinating corners. You should make time to go and see the Gignese Museum of Umbrellas and Parasols, the only one of its type in the world. Come and spend a relaxing holiday in Stresa.
