Vail was founded four years after the opening of the Vail Ski Resort in 1962, as a base village in its proximity at the elevation of over 8000 feet. Through infrastructural development over the years it became a home rule municipality of the Colorado State. The economy of the town is based on the winter tourism at Vail Mountain. However, due to wilderness areas nearby and cultural growth, more and more visitors come to Vail throughout the year.

Vail Mountain The Vali Ski Resort spreads over more than 5,289 skiable acres with 193 marked trails scaling from beginner to advanced levels of difficulty. The monumental mountain provides runs on three faces: the front side, the back bowls (seven of them) and two bowls of the Blue Sky Basin. All that encompassed by exquisite landscapes which can be enjoyed during the gondola rides.

Eagles Nest Wilderness Area Rugged grounds spanning on the Gore Mountain range are a demanding but rewarding hiking destination. The exploration of the area is free of charge but the adventure should be scheduled in the summer due to the complexity of the terrain.

Holy Cross Wilderness Area Situated in the White River National Forest, the Holy Cross Wilderness Area provides numerous hiking and cycling trails as well as fishing points. It is ideal for getting in touch with local vegetation and animal life. The area bursts with valleys interrupted by numerous mountain lakes and pools spreading beneath peaks of mountains and is bound to make a powerful impression.

Betty Ford Alpine Gardens A botanical garden was cultivated in the name of Gerald R. Ford's wife Betty as a memorial to her efforts towards the development of the Vail Mountain Community. The gardens have multiple levels, water cascades and overlook the Rocky Mountains. They provide a serene retreat from the lively atmosphere in the city and the adrenalin rush of the ski resort.

Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater vail coloradoThe outdoor amphitheater is located near the Batty Ford Alpine Gardens as if to signify the bond between the couple as well as their bond to the Vail community. It is a one of a kind experience of entertainment surrounded by the scenery of the mesmerizing Rocky Mountains. Piney River Ranch A hidden gem for the warmer months, the Piney River Ranch offers canoeing, horseback riding, lodging and good dining in the nature among the mountains. The hospitality and energy of this place is enchanting.

The Vail town provides proximity of year-round outdoor activities from skiing and snowboarding to hiking, cycling, horseback riding, fishing and carriage rides as well as sights beyond imagination. Varying from plains and valleys, lakes and streams to jagged slopes of mountains, whatever the season, it is the season to visit.

Culinary diversity and entertainment venues will certainly appeal to your senses and with small alterations Vail can fulfill anyone's needs - whether you are a lone traveler, a couple or a family, here you can find a perfect balance of opportunities for relaxation and action in any amount needed.
