Mainz is the capital city of the federal state of the Rhine-Palatinate, in south-west Germany. It is one of the country's main ports, and the place where Gutenberg invented the printing press. Mainz has a lot for people of all tastes to see and do. We recommend visiting Saint Martin's Cathedral, the Palace of the Princes Electors, the Church of Saint Stephen (built in 990), and the municipal park. If you like gardens, don't miss the Rosengarten, where you will be charmed by a large selection of roses and even a clock made of flowers. Other interesting sights in Mainz include: the Unterhaus stage, the State Museum (1803), the Kammerspiele stage and the Gutenberg Museum, which is one of Germany's most visited museums. Founded in 1900, it explains all of the printing techniques used over the centuries. The city also boasts a good selection of shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants and hotels to suit all tastes and budgets. Discover Mainz!
