The city of Varna is on the shoreline of the Black Sea. It is one of the most important cities in Bulgaria. The city's biggest attraction is the Varna Necropolis, popularly referred to as the Cemetery. It is a major archeological site, discovered in 1972, that has 290 tombs, some of which still have valuable objects in them. The tombs date back to 4,600 BC, making them a crucially important archeological treasure. The city itself is frankly pretty, surrounded as it is by gardens, vineyards and olive groves that give a natural and fresh air to its streets and paths. We recommend visiting the Archeological Museum, which houses some amazing objects that go back as far as the Stone Age, the National Maritime Museum, and the Ethnographic Museum, which has an excellent display on the 19th century. You should also make time to visit Varna Cathedral (19th century), the Dolphin Reserve, which is unique in the Balkans, and the Palace of Culture and Sport and Roman Baths, which were built in the second century AD. Come and get to know this city and its historical, architectural and archeological treasures, visit Varna!
