Tokyo has many residents and the city has many things to do and places to see. When planning your trip to Tokyo you will want to make sure that you have researched these places in order to make the most of your visit.

First is the Tsukiji Market which offers plenty of items whether you enjoy sushi or not. Guests can take a sightseeing tour that will take you to the market and you can expect to spend one to two hours taking in all that the market has to offer. Some claim that the market is the largest fish market in the world. Each day 2,000 tons of fish are handled daily at the market which is a sight to behold for tourists. Ships begin filling in to the market at 5:30 a.m. and tuna auctions are getting started. There are small viewing areas that tourists can watch the goings on from 5 to 6:15 a.m.

Next on the top things to do in Tokyo list is the Tokyo National Museum. This is the museum to visit in Tokyo. The national museum is the oldest and largest museum in Japan. It is also the home to the largest Japanese art collection and artifacts on the planet. There are six buildings in total of the museum and you can expect to see samurai armor, swords and more. In addition there are pieces from all over the continent in the museums Asian Gallery. Guests can expect to spend anywhere from two hours to half of a day exploring the museum and everything it has to offer. The museum is also in a convenient location and can be reached easily by taking the metro.

There is also the Meiji Shrine. This shrine is a Shinto shrine that is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The history of Japan has given credit to the emperor for helping Japan to become modern in the late 19th century and 20th century. The emperor passed in 1912. There is a forest that surrounds the shrine that is very notable and is considered to be a part of the Yoyogi Park. This forest is the home of over 245 species of trees from all over the world. You can expect to spend around one to two hours visiting the shrine and the forest surrounding the shrine.

The Sensoji Temple is also another hot spot to visit while in Tokyo. This temple serves as one of the oldest religious sites in Tokyo and is also the most popular Buddhist spot. Even though the temple claims to be an older and ancient temple it was actually reconstructed. The temple was razed during World War II and the only surviving piece was the eastern gate. Since then the temple was rebuilt and then commercialized very heavily. This sadly does take away from the serene design of the temple. Guests can expect to spend one to two hours visiting the temple and taking in the sites that it has to offer. Admission to the temple is free as well.
