Baglio Case Colomba' is situated in the hills of western Sicily. In ancient times, the road linking the important Elymian cities of Erice and Segesta passed through the area. The rustic farmhouse, built around a courtyard, dates from the end of the nineteenth century. Despite recent renovations, all of its original features have been preserved intact. The property is surrounded by lush orchards that produce a variety of fruits all year round. Fresh farm produce can also be bought from neighbouring houses. Baglio Case Colomba' is an ideal starting point for unforgettable day-trips to many places of cultural and historical interest and to the Nature Reserves of western Sicily, so you can alternate between days spent walking or relaxing in the beautiful countryside dotted with small villages, farms and medieval castles, and excursions by sea and by land to explore the scenic coastline. Places not to be missed include: the archaeological sites of Selinunte (the largest Greek colony in Western Sicily), Segesta, an ancient Elymian settlement, with its Doric temple and magnificent amphitheatre, Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, the island of Mothia, the Cusa Quarries, the towns of Erice, Marsala, Trapani and Palermo. The many attractions along the spectacular coastline include: the wide sandy beach, stunning bay and crystal-clear waters of the popular resort of San Vito Lo Capo, Guidaloca' beach and I Faraglioni' (rock stacks rising from the sea) at Scopello, the small coves and inlets in the Zingaro Nature Reserve, the bay at Makari, the magnificent Egadi archipelago, the Trapani salt mines and the Stagnone Lagoon islands. In perfect harmony with this abundance of unspoilt nature, traces of human activities of days long gone can be seen in old tuna farms, watermills and small harbours, testimony to the strong ties that have always bound Sicily's populations to this rich and beautiful land. In the house, you'll find a wide variety of information giving details of possible day trips.
