Once a Pony Express stop, this rustic historic hotel dating from 1858 is on US Route 50 at the foot of Lover's Leap and has the American River running through the property.
The rooms are split between 2 sites, 1 on each side of the highway, and comprise the original lodge and more modern additions. The older rooms have basic decor and furnishings and most have shared bathrooms. The newer rooms have en suite bathrooms and come equipped with TVs and phones.
Public areas include a lobby with a fireplace, games and books, a restaurant, a bar and riverside picnic areas. There are also facilities for meetings, weddings and retreats.
