Hull (or Kingston upon Hull to give it its official title) is a city located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, a county in the northeast of England. Once considered one of the worst places in the country, the city has shrugged off its derogatory reputation to emerge as a fascinating, not to mention, scenic destination, and one more and more tourists are being turned on to. Located on the banks of the River Hull, the city is well connected to the likes of Leeds, York, Sheffield and other Yorkshire destinations.

Good road and rail links make it readily accessible from just about anywhere in the country, while Robin Hood Airport - located 48 miles away near Sheffield - provides passage for air travelers. The city houses a range of hotels, including those to suit almost any budget. The majority of hotels are located in the city center. The best generally offer a river view. Since opening in 2002, The Deep has emerged as the region's No. 1 tourist attraction. This impressive aquarium is the deepest in all of Europe and houses thousands of species. From sharks and sting rays to turtles and penguins, you'll see a treasure trove of marine delights here. Highly recommended for families visiting Hull.

The Museum Quarter is another popular destination for visitors to the city. Here you'll find the likes of the Streetlife Museum of Transport, Wilberforce House, the Maritime Museum and more. Looking for something a little different? Visit the Arctic Corsair, an old trawler ship that has been converted to a museum. Take a visit and find out what it was like to head out onto the rough seas. Other popular historical and cultural attractions in the city include the Holy Trinity Church, Hull New Theatre and Ferens Art Gallery. Outside of the city, the Humber Bridge - one of the longest suspension bridges in the world - offers an impressive sight, while Fort Paull - located in the nearby village of Paull - makes for an interesting visit.

Travelers looking to enjoy a countryside stroll should pass their attention to the Viking Way. At 147 miles long, you won't be able to traverse the whole thing, but a stroll of a couple of miles will offer up plenty of enjoyable scenery.

For an enjoyable day out, visit Hornsea, Bridlington or any of the region's other fine beaches. Back in Hull, visitors will find plenty of modern amenities too. From shops and restaurants to pubs and sporting venues, there's plenty to keep you busy here. For the record, the local ale is considered amongst the best in the country.

Looking for something to eat? Hull is home to an array of award-winning fish and chip shops. Thanks to its proximity to the North Sea and its fishing history, you'll be hard pushed to find anything better in this part of the world. The best time to visit Hull is in the summer months, between May and September. The city is busiest at the height of summer (late June to late August) so visitors looking for a quieter visit might want to avoid this time.
