Liverpool, located on the banks of the River Mersey on the west coast of the United Kingdom, is a culturally diverse city that welcomes millions of visitors each year. Primarily a destination for domestic tourists, the city has recently begun to welcome increasing numbers of international visitors too. Visitors arrive by road, rail, air and sea. Motorists looking to visit the city should make a beeline for the M6, M62 or M53. Rail passengers will find the city well-connected to the likes of Birmingham, Manchester, Norwich and beyond.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport serves destinations across the UK and Europe, including London. Meanwhile, a regular ferry service operates between the city and the Republic of Ireland. Visitors to the city will find a wide choice of hotels to choose from, the majority of which are located in the city center of near the rejuvenated docklands area. From budget hotels to luxury boutique hotels, the city accommodates any budget. As with many of the UK's towns and cities, Liverpool is home to an array of aged and interesting buildings. Visitors looking to see some classical architecture should seek out the likes of St. George's Hall, the Liver Building, the Port of Liverpool Building, the Walker Art Gallery and World Museum.

The latter two also have plenty of treasures to see inside too. Liverpool's docklands are a vital part of the city's history and today serve as a nice backdrop for an afternoon stroll. The Albert Dock is the best place for tourists, offering a number of other attractions to enjoy. Here you'll find the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Liverpool art gallery, the International Slavery Museum and the Beatles Story, an attraction dedicated to the world famous band.

The birthplace of The Beatles, Liverpool welcomes an army of the band's fans each year. From the Cavern Club, where the band played its first shows, to Menlove Avenue, where John Lennon lived as a youngster, there are plenty of Beatles landmarks dotted throughout the city. The best way of seeing everything Beatles related is to take a guided tour, of which there are several. If the Beatles are Liverpool's first love, football (soccer) is the city's second love. Football fans in the city fall into one of two groups; the red of Liverpool FC or the blue of Everton.

It's not uncommon for families to be divided in their allegiance. If you're interested in taking in a game, Liverpool plays at Anfield in the district of the same name, while Everton plays at Goodison Park in Walton. Liverpool also offers visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy a slice of culture. Theatres in the city include the Royal Court Theatre, Unity Theatre, the Royal Exchange and Epstein Theatre.

The Liverpool Empire Theatre is just one of the venues promoting live music, while music concerts are a regular occurrence. Echo Arena, named for the local newspaper, also hosts an assortment of events, including pop and rock music, boxing, professional wrestling, ice dancing and more. Like most major cities in the United Kingdom, the hustle and bustle in Liverpool rarely dies down. It does pick up in summer months though when the weather is better and children are on school vacation. Visitors looking for a quieter trip might want to consider heading here in the spring.
