The province of Salerno is in the Italian region of Campania. Its capital is the city of the same name. Perhaps its key attraction is the city's castle, which was first erected in the second century BC. We also highly recommend visiting the city's cathedral, which was finished in 1079 and is the resting place of Saint Matthew. The cathedral boasts some excellent mosaics, religious relics and paintings. There are some lovely streets and alleys around the cathedral that are worth a look. We also highly recommend visiting the Verdi Theatre (1865) and the famous Schola Medica Salernitana (Salerno Medical School). Salerno's countryside is also quite special; it is home to Monte Cervati, the highest peak in Campania with an altitude of over 1,900 metres, the Cilento National Park, laurel forests, the Getsameni Hills and other natural wonders. Discover this magnificent Italian city for yourself, explore its monuments and old buildings, enjoy its natural surroundings. Visit Salerno!
