Turin is the capital city of the region of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy. The city has many important monuments, and those that should not be missed include: the Mole Antonelliana, an imposing building that was originally intended to be a synagogue. It was completed in 1863, and nowadays it houses the National Cinema Museum. The Piazza Castello, set out in 1584, was the centre of Turin from Roman times until the Renaissance. From the square, the great boulevards of Via Roma, Via Pietro Micca, Via Po and the pedestrianised Via Garibaldi radiate out. The Superga Basilica, which dates to 1731, is located above the city and it offers some fine views. Also well worth seeing are the Palazzo Madama, a palace in the centre of Piazza Castello; the Palazzo Carignano, a palace that houses the National Museum of Italian Unification; the Cathedral of San Giovanni; and the Chapel of San Sindone. Turin is a beautiful city, full of activities and cultural, artistic and historical attractions. It also has many parks and gardens for the visitor to enjoy the outdoors. Turin is waiting for you!
