Luxor is the capital of the region of the same name in southern Egypt. It is the most popular destination in the Nile Valley and southern part of this exotic country. Luxor was built on the site of the ancient city of Thebes, which means that it is full of valuable and interesting ruins. It has gained the nickname of the World's Biggest Museum, receiving thousands of visitors year after year who come to unveil the sacred mysteries of this mythical place. The ruins are in stark contrast to the modernity of Luxor itself, which has all manner of amenities for visitors. The centre of the city is close to the east bank, where you will find hotels, restaurants, museums and shops. The west bank, site of ancient Thebes, you will find most of the ruins. The places of most interest are: the Temple of Luxor, built by the Pharaohs Amenhotep II and Ramses II, which has incredible statue called pylons; the Temple of Karnak, which has ruins from ancient Egyptian culture; the Valley of Kings and the Valley of Queens, resting place of the Pharaohs and members of the royal family. Luxor is truly a unique holiday destination!
